Why Bazodee, Staring Machel Montano And Natalie Perera, Is The Perfect Movie To See This Summer

3 Aug

Bazodee movie, a Caribbean rom com (or romantic comedy), couldn’t have come at a better time!

Bazodee, is filled with laughter and love, two of the things we so desperately need right now in our communities this summer; and a message that we have all seemed to have forgotten over the last few months: race shouldn’t matter.

It’s funny, inspiring and uplifting! Not to mention, easily relatable for the Caribbean American community here in NYC. The accents aren’t fake (thank God), and the jokes sound like they were torn out of a page from our own life stories.

So what’s Bazodee all about?

“Anita Ponchouri (Natalie Perera), pictured above, [is] the dutiful Indian daughter of a deep-in-debt businessman (Kabir Bedi) [and] is about to marry a wealthy Londoner (Staz Nair), also pictured above, when a chance encounter with local singer, Lee de Leon (soca music star, Machel Montano) sets things askew. In search of a muse, de Leon agrees to perform at the engagement party for both families. Unable to deny their mutual attraction, and with the excitement of Carnival approaching, Anita must now choose between the answer to her family’s financial prayers and the possibility of real love.”

Surprisingly, soca artist Machel Montano, is a natural actor and the chemistry between him and his co-star, Natalie Perera, is undeniable.

But what I love about this movie, despite it’s cheesiness and predictable scenes, is that it’s entertaining. I literally laughed and danced throughout the entire thing!

So if you’re a Machel Montano or soca music fan, be prepared to dance in your seat, as most of the music is his. However, there are also a few Indian songs as well, and even those are catchy. But despite what you hear others say, this isn’t a Bollywood movie! Yes there’s music, dancing and even singing, but this is not Bollywood!

Don’t let the Indian actors and clothes fool you.

Either way this is definitely a movie you should go see! But be prepared, as it’s clearly evident that this wasn’t a big motion picture, like most of the movies you’re used to watching in the theater. But that doesn’t mean it’s not worth seeing!

Would you have watched Cool Runnings or Shottas on the big screen? If so, then there’s absolutely no reason you shouldn’t go see Bazodee! Not to mention the fact that you’ll also be supporting an African-American writer (who’s also Caribbean) as well. Claire Ince, the writer, is from Barbados, which explains why she was able to capture the Caribbean culture so well!

But if I haven’t convinced you yet, then maybe this trailer will:

As you’ll see, Bazodee is filled with good music, good vibes and a great story, that many of us can relate to. Being torn between doing something you really want to do, and something you feel like you have no choice but to do, happens to everyone at least once in their lifetime. So even if you’re not Caribbean, you’ll still get sucked into this love story. I know I did.

Bazodee opens nationwide this Friday, August 5th, 2016.

Yes, the same day as Suicide Squad, I know. Which means if you’re going to already be there, you might as well pop in to see Bazodee as well, right? As we Caribbean folks like to say, “kill two birds, with one stone”. So go ahead, treat yourself to a good laugh this Friday. You can thank me later.
