Damian Marley Is Newest Co-Owner Of Jay-Z’s Tidal

Damian ‘Jr Gong’ Marley is the latest top artiste to sign on as co-owner of Jay Z’s music-streaming service, Tidal. The announcement was made at the Tidalx1020 concert at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, on Tuesday.As Marley was set to take the stage, the audience was told that this was to be his first performance as a co-owner, which was met with a round of applause.

The show, which helped raise money for The concert was also a celebration, as the streaming service can now claim one million paying subscribers, which is up a few hundred thousand from several months ago. Marley was one of more than twenty well-known musicians that performed at the Tidalx1020 show, including superstars like Jay Z, Beyoncé, Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne, and surprise guests like Nas and DJ Khaled.

Tidal has embraced the idea of musicians owning the service, which it stated from the beginning was one of the things that would separate it from the other streaming platforms. The company celebrated its relaunch just over six months ago, and since then, it has added new co-owners fairly regularly, grabbing from every genre and part of the world.

Marley is one of the best-known reggae acts since, well, his father, the legendary Bob Marley. The Jamaican-born musician has charted two top ten albums, and he was even in a supergroup with Mick Jagger, Joss Stone, and Oscar-winning composer A. R. Rahman.
