Jab Jab In The Morning Grenada #SpiceMas2015

10 Aug

Monday 10th August,2015, Grenada celebrated traditional Carnival event; Jab Jab In The Morning.

There are different stories of how the Jab Jab masquerade in carnival came about. However it is fact that before the emancipation of slavery, the slaves were not allowed to partake in carnival celebration. At the end of slavery, gangs of recently liberated slaves, covered in black grease, molasses, or varnish, took to the streets, and rejoiced in their freedom. Scantily dressed, and sometimes with chains and padlocks around their legs, the former slaves attempted to offend polite society, which they blamed for decades of suffering.Yes, indeed. Jab Jab is an artistic metaphoric expression of freedom. That is the Jab Jab essence.
